243 - The Burnt Out Practice Owner: Where Do You Get Help When S– Happens at Your Private Therapy Practice? with Bianka Hardin

“Pay for help and focus on what you're really good at.” - Bianka Hardin

Who would have thought that practice ownership involved so much feces?! Now that I have your attention, lemme explain. Actually, I’ll let my guest, Bianka Hardin, PsyD, explain since it’s her story. Bianka owns Centered Therapy Chicago (CTC), a 10-year-old group practice with 20 clinicians on staff. Her hilarious (and gross) tale perfectly illustrates the literal and metaphorical sh*t that practicer owners must deal with.

Here’s the thing, though: while practice owners do have to take care of a lot, they don’t have to do it all. “It takes a village for sure,” says Bianka. She urges practice owners to consider the true value of their talents and weigh that against the cost of having to take on other tasks. “Do you, as the business owner, want to be doing your website, your taxes, your social media, or decorating?”

No. You don’t.

Bianka entered private practice to foster knowledgeable supervision, professional development, and authentic connection. CTC has exceeded those expectations partly because she understands her worth and the value of outside hires. “I keep investing in supporters of the business so that I can focus on what I'm really good at that brings me joy.”

Having support networks in place before the sh*t hits the fan can save your sanity. You and your practice are worth the effort.
